This park gets its name from the famous statue which beautifies its yards. The Merlion is a fish and lion blend and the national image of Singapore. The park is spotted close Marina Bay and is home to two of the popular Merlions, the mother Merlion and her fledgling. The park was planned as an image for the Singapore Tourism Board in 1964 and authoritatively opened in 1972.

The Merlion figure with the leader of a lion and collection of a fish roosted on a wave got to be so well known it turned into a social symbol. It speaks to Singapore's inceptions as an angling town. The first name was Singapura or "lion city" in Malay. The statue itself remains before the Hotel One Fullerton. The Merlion is 8.6 meters tall and measures 70 tons and its fledgling is 2 meters high and measures 3 tons. It is developed from concrete fondue and was made by Lim Nang Seng. The Merlion confronts east which is the conventional wellspring of flourishing and a wellspring pours out of its mouth. At the point when the Esplanade Bridge was finished in 1997 the statue couldn't be seen from the waterfront as some time recently. This brought about the Merlion being migrated 120 meters from its unique position to where it stands today before the Fullerton Hotel.

All through Singapore you can discover 5 of these renowned figures, two in Merlion Park and the others at Mt. Faber, Sentosa and the Tourism Court. Visitors go to the park to posture for a photograph with the adored Merlion.
